Purification: The performer takes a bath and wears traditional clothing (dhoti/kurta).

Kusha Grass Ring: A ring made of Kusha grass (called Pavitri) is worn on the ring finger of the right hand.

Dev & Rishi Tarpan: Making offerings of water to the deities and ancient sages.

Pitru Tarpan: Pouring water mixed with black sesame seeds over the thumb (specifically using the Pitru Teertha part of the hand) while chanting the names of three generations of maternal and paternal ancestors.

Mantra Recitation: Reciting prayers seeking forgiveness for any unintended offenses and wishing peace to all souls in the universe.

Arghya to the Sun: Concluding with water offerings to Lord Surya (the Sun God).
